“Which United? There’s only one United: Manchester United. And don’t you forget it.”- Joe Jordan.

25 UNDER 25 | SPAIN, ATHETICO MADRID | DAVID DE GEA. Goalkeeper. Born 7 November 1990.

“We have to take care of him, because he is the future. He is twenty years old. He will pension us all off. I hope he does great things for his club and the Spanish National Team.” - Iker Casillas, La Furia Roja & Real Madrid (Goalkeeper, Captain).

David de Gea may only be 20 years old, but many have already drawn comparisons between he and his goalkeeping idol Edwin Van der Sar, including his Athletico team mates who have nicknamed him “Van de Gea.” Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson even commented that the “young, quick and composed” de Gea would be an “outstanding replacement for Van der Sar,” who announced his retirement earlier in the season. There is no doubt that he will have huge gloves to fill, following the likes of Edwin Van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel in wearing the #1 shirt, should the transfer rumours be believed; however, he seems to have maturity beyond his years, and the rumoured transfer fee of £18 million will do little to unsettle him: “I am not interested in numbers, clauses and prices. Real value is what you show on the pitch. Money is (only) secondary.”

“You can see when he makes a great save, all the players are very happy for him. We are all behind him and support him. I am really confident in him. I am looking forward and he can become one of the best.”- Patrice Evra on David de Gea.
